New Start Highland to provide complimentary slow cookers for free virtual cookery classes
Complimentary slow cookers will be provided to participants on a free cooking course run by New Start Highland.
The classes, which are run in partnership with The Cooking Club, are taking place amid the cost of living crisis as people feel the pinch post-Christmas.
The six week online course, which is funded by New Start Highland, is available to anyone and starts in January with only a handful of places remaining.

- Tomato City, dandelion coffee and nettle tea
- Highland charity hopes new training cafe will help to fill the gap
It is the second time the course has been run and has returned by popular demand.
Participants can collect their slow cookers from New Start Highland in Carsegate Road North from January 3.
They can then use them during the virtual cook-along lessons where they will learn how to make healthy meals on a low budget.
James Dunbar, New Start Highland’s chief executive, said: "We really value our partnership with the Cooking Club and this course is much needed, at a time when the cost of food is ever-rising and people are time poor.
"Not only do attendees receive a slow cooker at no cost, they can learn how to make nutritious, cost-effective meals which is a valuable skill to master in challenging times."
Clare Cousins, who runs the Cooking Club, along with Karen Castle and Hailey Dempster, said: "We thoroughly enjoy running the slow cooker courses and are grateful to New Start Highland for funding them.
"One of our participants told us they enjoyed the simplicity of slow cooking and the delicious results at the end of the day."
As part of the six week block of classes, participants will learn how to cook vegetable and lentil casserole, lemon spinach orzo, potato pie, Tuscan-style chicken or beans, stuffed peppers and sausage casserole.
Classes start at 9.30am on Saturday January 13 and each will last about 30 minutes.
New Start Highland, which tackles poverty, homelessness and long-term unemployment, recently reported 2023 has been one of its hardest – but most successful – years.
It said more people than ever need its services amid the ongoing cost of living crisis – during the past 12 months, it has served people in the Highland community over 120,000 times.
