SNP runs away with Highland Council area win in European Parliamentary Election count polling more than double the votes of nearest rival the Brexit Party; Liberal Democrats come third with Conservatives and Greens further behind and Labour well off the pace

THE SNP dominated the votes in the European Parliamentary Election for the Highland Council counting area.

A total of 28,681 votes for the SNP was more than double the Brexit Party which was runner-up for the area with 13,854.

There were 77,206 votes cast in the Highlands, equating to a turnout of 43.2 per cent.

This included 22,876 postal votes.

The votes were counted in Dingwall last night.

The total number of valid votes in the Highland Council area were:

  • 28,681 – SNP
  • 13,854 – Brexit Party
  • 13,416 – Liberal Democrats
  • 7577 – Conservatives
  • 7052 – Greens
  • 3109 – Labour
  • 1619 – UKIP
  • 1199 – Change UK
  • 286 – Gordon Edgar
  • 124 – Ken Parke
