UPDATED Friday, 4.20pm): THE A9 has re-opened after heavy snow forced its partial closure for almost three hours on Friday.

The road was closed in both directions between Inverness and Tomatin at around 1.15pm.

It re-opened shortly after 4pm.

But although it is now open, motorists are being urged to take care.

"Please drive according to the conditions," said a police spokesman.

Up-to-date information on the current status of roads in the Highlands & Islands can be obtained by checking the Traffic Scotland website on www.trafficscotland.org or 0800 0281414 or by listening to local radio.
