Their debut gig at Inverness Leisure Centre is on Friday, December 8, kicking off a weekend of live music ahead of the festive season from LCC Live, organisers of Live In The City.

Les Kidger, director of LCC Live Event Services, said: “We can only do so many shows at Inverness Leisure Centre and we’ve always done shows like The Proclaimers, Texas and The Beach Boys.

“But now the Ironworks has closed, we’ve had a number of different artists approach us. So we said ‘Let’s see if we can do this’ because there at the leisure centre we are twice the size of the Ironworks, so let’s see if we can bring the audience up.

“With Skerryvore, they had played the Ironworks in Inverness before and now it has shut, basically, there was nowhere indoors.

“So we spoke to them for a long time about it and we thought ‘We can do this!’. What we are going to do is have three shows there that weekend – Skerryvore play the Friday and the other nights will be announced in the coming weeks.”

The eight-piece played to thousands of fans at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow at the end of last year, as part of Hoolie At The Hydro, and will soon be touring their sixth studio album, Tempus, which comes out on April 28.

They will be joined for the Inverness show by special guest Cammy Barnes, who has had multiple singles reach the UK Top 20 chart and number ones on the singer/songwriter iTunes chart, and more recently country too.

Caitlin Brown of LCC Live said: “We couldn’t think of any better way to commence our festive weekend of live music than with the impeccable trad sounds of Skerryvore!

“The band have a busy year touring around the globe following their new album, so it’s great to add Inverness on to that extensive list. It’s going to be a great night with lots of singing and dancing, so we can’t wait!

“We hope to see a full venue with everyone just enjoying themselves and having a good time at the beginning of the festivities.”

Skerryvore themselves are looking forward to the show too.

The group’s fiddle player Craig Elspie said: “We couldn’t do an album tour without a trip to the Highlands!

“Inverness is up there with our favourite places to play, and we're really excited to perform at the leisure centre for the first time!”

Tickets for Skerryvore go on sale next Friday (March 24) from ticketline.co.uk or in person from Caffery’s Menswear in the Eastgate Shopping Centre, Inverness.
