SIX further cases of Covid-19 have been recorded across the NHS Highland region.

The cumulative number of confirmed infections across the area since the pandemic began increased from 5205 to 5211 when the latest daily update was published.

Some 546 new cases of Covid-19 were detected across Scotland in the past 24 hours – or 2.1 per cent of tests over that time window.

Ninety-eight people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night – up one from Tuesday.

The number of those in intensive care remained unchanged on six.

And no fresh deaths were recorded among people who previously tested positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new cases overnight in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar.

Sixteen fresh positive tests were recorded in the NHS Grampian area, taking its tally to 15,422.

And the total for NHS Tayside increased to 15,030 after 55 new infections were detected.

There have now been 233,207 known cases of the virus in Scotland since the start of the pandemic.

Almost 3.16 million Scots have now received their first vaccination jag, and more than 1.91 million have had their second.
