A woman who tried to smuggle a sim card into prison has been fined.

Kirsty Blacezak (33) of Backmuir Cottages, Keith, had been released on bail along with her partner on February 17, who was remanded to HMP Inverness.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard Balcezak was “under pressure” to deliver the sim card and on March 7 she arranged a visit.

However, the court heard when prison staff tried to search her, she was reluctant.

Fiscal depute Pauline Gair said: “A small white wrap fell from her left side. There was a sim card in the tissue.”

Solicitor Cecily Kingston said her client was under pressure to deliver the item because her partner was also “under pressure.”

Sheriff Gary Aitken told Blacezak: “This is a very serious offence. There is a very good reason that the courts take a dim view of things being smuggled into prison, particularly sim cards which can enable the continuation of criminal activity from prison. With your record, a jail sentence would be appropriate, but where would that leave your children?

“You should have informed police if people were putting pressure on you to exploit you.”

She was fined £1040.
