INVERNESS will be in the spotlight Stateside after it was picked as a location for an episode of a popular TV series.

WarnerBros has been filming an installment of romantic reality show The Bachelorette, which is a spin-off of hit show The Bachelor.

Local tourist operators have been tightlipped about the filming but the Courier understands a film crew and cast of more than 100 people jetted into Scotland for filming.

The series sees American Hannah Brown being pursued by at least a dozen potential suitors who are trying to win her affections.

The Royal Highland Hotel in Station Square has been the operations centre for the crew, with MacGregor’s Bar in Academy Street used as a set.

The series is watched by millions of viewers and there are high hopes when it is screened it will provide a major boost to the tourist industry in the Highlands generally. Previous episodes have been filmed at locations in California and Rhode Island.

Film crews have been seen throughout Inverness and other locations around the Highlands.

Members of the film crew have also been posting on Twitter, including a photograph of Hannah on a bridge over the River Ness.

Another film crew from Germany was recently filming on Loch Ness for a scientific natural history programme.

Highland Council’s principal tourism and film officer Colin Simpson said VisitScotland research has shown people can be influenced to visit an area after seeing it on TV.

“The council film office deals with a range of enquiries about filming in Highland from the film industry, including commercials, TV dramas, natural history programmes, travel features and big-budget movies.

“These enquiries predominantly involve helping the productions find suitable locations in Highland but the film office also supports local businesses through referring the productions to the range of general and specialist services on offer.”

WarnerBros and other firms did not comment.
