A 23-year-old man was twice arrested by police for having three knives.

George Williamson, of Aird Crescent, Kirkhill, previously appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court on two indictments to plead guilty to a total of five charges.

Sentence was deferred for a background report but when he appeared to learn his fate, Sheriff Sara Matheson deferred the case again as the report suggested an assessment be done for Williamson to take part in a rehabilitation programme for male domestic abusers.

He will re-appear on October 3.

The court had been told of the first incident in Drumossie Road, Culloden on June 6, 2022 after Williamson had been drinking with his partner of six years and others.

Fiscal depute Robert Weir told Sheriff Matheson that Williamson initially left the property but when he returned, became aggressive towards the woman.

Police were called and when Williamson was searched, two knives were found on his person.

He admitted assaulting his partner to her injury – a lump above her eyebrow and a cut lip – possession of knives and threatening or abusive behaviour.

The second offence was on August 2, 2022 in Diriebught Court when Williamson approached a man and a woman accusing them of selling dodgy drugs, Mr Weir told the court. The pair managed to get into their house and locked the door.

Williamson also pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and possession of a knife at Tesco Extra at Inshes Retail Park on February 25, 2022. He had been stopped by staff on suspicion of shoplifting.

Mr Weir said: "He became aggressive towards them, shouted and swore and a knife fell to the floor from his pocket."

Defence solicitor advocate Clare Russell told the court: "The underlying problem here is unresolved grief after he found his sister dead four years ago and he has developed a significant alcohol problem since then."

Williamson's bail was continued.
