Police in Inverness are investigating after a “beheaded” deer was found beside a cemetery in the city.

The grim discovery over the weekend is being treated as “a wildlife crime” said a Police Scotland spokesperson.

In an appeal issued today (Tuesday May 7) police said: "Around 5.30pm on Monday, 6 May, 2024 we received a report of a deer having been found beheaded in woodland near Glenurquhart Road, Inverness.

"Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. Officers are appealing for information and witnesses who may have seen anything suspicious to come forward. You can call Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 2619 of 6 May or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
