A village shinty club with a vibrant youth set-up is gearing up for a big community-led fundraising drive for a new minibus.

Beauly’s Shinty Club’s trusty vehicle is reaching the end of its life cycle having carried players, young and old, well over 1500 miles in the past year alone.

The Inverness-shire outfit, renowned for its commitment to promoting the sport and fostering community spirit, wants to enhance accessibility for members and the wider community.

Transportation is integral to many club activities, particularly for young players, for training sessions, matches, and tournaments.

The club, named Mowi community club of the year in 2022, says a new minibus would not only ensure safer and more convenient travel, but enable the club to expand its reach, accommodating more players and providing access to shinty opportunities throughout the broader community.

It hopes the fundraising drive will involve the entire Beauly community and beyond and has already organised a series of events including two golf days, sponsored challenges and car washes.

It is inviting everyone to participate and contribute, with local businesses, organisations,

and individuals encouraged to show support through donations and sponsorships, and by volunteering their time and resources.

Beauly club president Iain Petrie said: “We believe that by acquiring a new minibus we can significantly improve the accessibility of shinty to our players, especially our vibrant youth teams.

“We look forward to the incredible support of our community and partners in making this vision a reality.”
