A 37-year-old Inverness man with "a bad record for driving" got behind the wheel of a car while banned and drove it while under the influence of drugs.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that the offences took place in Greenhill Street, Dingwall on May 20 last year.

James Donaghue, of Caledonian Road, admitted driving while disqualified, with no insurance, and with 2.8mcgs of a cannabis metabolite in his system when the legal limit is 2mcgs.

Sheriff Gary Aitken said: "He has an unfortunate string of analogous offending recently."

Defence solicitor Graham Mann agreed: "Yes, he has a bad record for driving. But he is currently working towards a drug treatment and testing order."

Sheriff Aitken deferred sentence until April 11 for a background report and warned Donaghue: "You will be well advised not to go near the wheel of a car again."
