A STAR-struck taxi driver earned himself a pair of free tickets to Monday night’s Texas concert, in return for giving the lead singer a free ride when she happily posed for a selfie.

Billy Duncan was so chuffed to have Sharleen Spiteri in his cab he waived the £7 fare.

And as a thank you the singer put his name on the guest list for the Inverness Leisure event.

Mr Duncan, who drives for Sneckie Taxis, had no idea he was picking up Sharleen Spiteri.

"The job was booked through my work," he said.

"It just came in as Sharleen from the Kingsclub at the Kingsmills Hotel going to the sports centre.

"But when she got closer to the car I knew straight away, I’ve got all her CDs so I recognised her."

He said the singer told him she was on her way to a sound check. She admitted to being in a dull mood but told him he had managed to cheer her up.

And it was then he popped the question, asking her for a selfie in return for a free taxi ride.

He added: "When it came to the fare I told her to forget it because I was giving her the taxi for nothing. She insisted she wanted to pay but I wouldn’t let her. I said ‘no it’s on me – but can I get a photo of you?’

"Then she said ‘would you like to be a guest at the concert?’

"She even asked me how many people I wanted to take but I said I would just take the wife. She texted someone called Big Derek telling him to put our name down on the guest list. My wife was delighted."

The grandfather-of-nine, of Carn Gorm Terrace, Kinmylies, added: "It was a magic concert. She was completely different to the person I met in the car. She was quiet and just a normal human, but up on the stage she was wild. A totally different person. She was brilliant."
