'Serious' crash closes A9 in both directions south of Inverness

THE A9 is closed in both directions south of Inverness due to a "serious" crash, Traffic Scotland has confirmed.

In an update posted online shortly after 6.30am it said that it was closed between Tomatin and Moy.

There was no immediate word on the number of vehicles involved or if there were any injuries, but Traffic Scotland described the incident as "a serious collision".

They added: "Emergency services are currently en-route and traffic is stationary on approach."

Police have since confirmed the location of the crash as being near Dalmagarry, and have warned that the road is "likely to be closed for some time".

They added: "There are local diversions in place. Drivers are being asked to avoid the area meantime."
