MUSIC, food and plenty of laughter combined to make an annual senior citizens’ lunch a great success on the Black Isle.

Hosted at Gordon Memorial Hall in Rosemarkie the event, open to local folk aged over 60, was pulled together by Fortrose and Rosemarkie Community Council.

It was supported by a number of other local organisations, businesses and individuals.

The event offers something to look forward to for local senior citizens at a quieter time of the year following the typically frantic festive season.

A group of pupils from Fortrose Academy helped out serving food which has been donated by a number of local businesses and prepared at the Fortrose Cafe and the Beach Cafe at Rosemarkie. Rosemarkie Amenities Association also chipped in towards the effort with funding coming from a variety of sources including activities staged at the St Boniface Fair in August.

Douglas Stewart rallied his Wall2Wall Fiddles friends to perform, along with the group Fyrish, ensuring guests’ toes were kep tapping.

Fortrose and Rosemarkie Community Council secretary Anne Phillips paid tribute to everyone who contributed to the success of the event. It was attended by around 70 guests.

She said: "It’s an annual event which has been running for several years now. We keep getting asked to do more and we may look at trying to do something in summer. There’s such a lot going on at Christmas so the idea is to have something nice at the start of the year."

Several of the Fortrose Academy pupils serving at the event are working towards Saltire awards. Those were set up to encourage and reward voluntary activity amongst young people.
