We talk a lot in the newsroom, but never as much about global superstar Taylor Swift as we have this week.

It shouldn't be a surprise given that after waiting almost four years, the American singer songwriter has finally announced she is bringing the Eras Tour to Scotland.

Colleagues have carved out masterplans to get their hands on tickets to go and see her perform live. One told me that her daughter is having something of a 'sleepover' with her pals doing a 'watch-party' on the ticket-buying website from midnight – several hours before the tickets go on general release so they can be as near to the front of the queue as possible... much like those tennis fans who camp out at Wimbledon. They're planning to have eight laptops wired up for their mission to get tickets – whether it makes a difference or not, only time will tell.

It seems others can't see each other without asking about the singing sensation who appears to have captured everyone's excitement and imagination.

If you don't know what all the fuss is about, then in a nutshell she is probably in the top most sought after music stars right now – and she's coming to Scotland. However, fans will (and do) travel from all over the world to see her, so what's the best way to increase your chances of getting to go to the big show? I spoke to a Taylor Swift superfan – a Swiftie for those who don't know and got their insight on how to go about securing a spot at the gig of next summer.

What the Swiftie says

Ever since the announcement, I have been meticulously scouring the internet on how to increase my chances of getting tickets. So, from one Swiftie to another, here are my secret inside tips to getting tickets for Taylor Swift's Edinburgh BT Murrayfield Eras Tour, where she will be playing three nights in June 2024.

Things to do in advance:

  • Add the email address no_reply@uk-umg.com to your contacts, so that emails from Universal Music do not go to your spam folder.
  • Log into/create your TicketMaster account in advance, double-check all your details are saved, including your card.
  • Sign up to AXS, so you can access the pre–sale (if you qualify).

Pre-sale:

If you bought from Taylor Swift's Midnights store last October, you will have qualified for special pre-sale access, and should have received a pre-sale access code by Friday, July 7. If you haven't got it yet, email presale@umusic.com. Then you need to create a AXS account, otherwise you won't have access the pre-sale. Also keep in mind there is a limit of four tickets per customer in the pre-sale.

The sale for the different dates are staggered throughout the day on July 10, to help with website traffic, so your sale will start at a different time depending on which date you want tickets for.

  • 11am: Edinburgh, BT Murrayfield, June 7.
  • 1pm: Edinburgh, BT Murrayfield, June 8.
  • 3pm: Edinburgh, BT Murrayfield, June 9.

General Sale:

If you missed out on the pre-sale, there is still the general sale taking place on Monday, July 17 for the Edinburgh tickets.

The sale for the different dates are staggered throughout the day on July 17, to help with website traffic, so your sale will start at a different time depending on which date you want tickets for.

  • 11am: Edinburgh, BT Murrayfield, June 7.
  • 1pm: Edinburgh, BT Murrayfield, June 8.
  • 3pm: Edinburgh, BT Murrayfield, June 9.

Advice:

  • Decide in advance what your budget is, and what seating you are aiming for.
  • Once you're in the ticket queue, expect waiting times of over two hours.
  • Do not refresh the page in the queue – this will put you to the back of the line.
  • Once you get to the sale page, be as quick as possible, grab your tickets and just get to the checkout.

Estimated prices:

Many North American Swifties had tickets starting at over $400 (£313), which is unaffordable for many of us – but this is my best guess at what prices will be for the Eras Tour in Scotland.

Prices for Harry Styles' recent Love on Tour at BT Murrayfield Stadium started at £50.65 for restricted view seats, £84.40–£108.05 for general seating, and £189 for premium seat packages. Beyonce’s recent Renaissance tour at BT Murrayfield was also priced between £56–£200. So I would hope that Taylor Swift's BT Murrayfield prices will be similar to these pop superstars.

If you still find yourself walking away empty handed from the pre-sale and general sale, all is not lost yet. Taylor has already added 14 extra shows to her European leg of the Eras Tour, and she may add more shows yet.

Most of all, have faith that karma and the invisible strings tie you to those gorgeous BT Murrayfield Taylor Swift Tickets.
