CASTLE Stuart officials have confirmed the Scottish Open golf championship will return to their links course next summer.

The four-day tournament was in doubt after its main sponsors, Barclays, ended its ties with the event in September and officials from the French Open voiced their desires to take over the coveted slot in the sport’s calendar — one week before the Open Championship, in England.

However, officials at The European Tour today announced the event would be staged at Castle Stuart from 12th to 15th July next year.

"This is great news," said Fraser Cromarty, Castle Stuart’s sales and marketing director.

He was always optimistic the event would come back, despite torrential rain marring the tournament earlier this year.
