Disruption to ScotRail's Far North Line service from Wick to Inverness after staff member takes ill
Train travellers on this morning’s early service from Wick to Inverness have been hit by disruption north of Lairg.
The 06:18 ScotRail service due into the Highland capital at 10:39 was initially cancelled after a member of the train staff took ill.
But the Far North Line service will now be reinstated between Lairg and Inverness, leaving the Sutherland village at 08:52.
Replacement buses are running between Wick and Inverness.
A ScotRail spokesman said: “It will no longer call at Wick, Georgemas Junction (from Wick at 06:36), Thurso, Georgemas Junction (towards Inverness at 07:03), Forsinard, Kildonan, Helmsdale, Brora, Golspie and Rogart.
“This is because of a member of on-train staff being taken ill.
“We have organised replacement road transport supplied by Kineils buses, calling all stations from Wick to Lairg, with a drop-off in Inverness.”
The staff shortage will also hit two later trains, with replacement buses operating on the 12:34 Wick to Inverness service and the 18:31 Inverness to Wick service today.
