As we all start to imagine life beyond lockdown across Scotland and the rest of the UK, many of us are already starting to plan and book our summer staycations to rediscover and explore what’s on our own doorstep, including some of the Scotland’s most beautiful countryside, wide open green spaces and miles of unspoilt coastline.

Covid-19 lockdown travel restrictions have today been eased to allow us to travel within the Highland Council local authority area as the advice moves from stay at home to stay local.

Both the Dornoch Castle Hotel and the The Torridon, on or near to the North Coast 500, have been placed in the top seven places in Scotland for guided staycations they could provide the perfect opportunity for a short break.

Both places try to go above and beyond to ensure their guests have a safe and fulfilling experience with the benefit of new guided tours with local experts.

The Dornoch Castle Hotel has Peter Logie, who is a qualified green badge guide for the north Highlands and member of the Scottish Tour Guides Association, who offers a variety of exciting options for guests of this luxury hotel, including walking tours, coach and driver guided tours which promise to take people ‘off the beaten track’ to see places they may never have found on their own.

The town of Dornoch itself is situated on the world-famous North Coast 500 route; Scotland’s answer to Route 66. The local surroundings offer stunning scenery, history and heritage, white and sandy beaches, native wildlife and excellent food and drink.

The Torridon has two separate tours and activities – Torridon Outdoors with Ben Watson and Stargazing with Stephen Mackintosh.
