A 12-year-old from Inverness is getting ready to take the plunge to raise money for a charity close to his heart.

Ronnie Malcolm had to say goodbye to beloved 16-year-old mongrel Lady earlier this month, prompting the P7 pupil at Smithton Primary to plan a new year dip in Loch Ness to raise funds for The Dogs Trust.

“Lady was one of the family, she was my best friend and I just want to do something in her memory,” he said.

“So I decided that I would raise money for The Dogs Trust to help other dogs that may have a bad start in life. I just want the money to help where it can.”

Setting himself a target of £250, Ronnie has already surpassed that with friends, family and fellow dog lovers all donating to the cause.

“I am going to do a full body ‘dunk’ in Loch Ness at 1pm on New Year’s Day,” he said. “I have never done anything like this before, and I am sure it will be very cold.”

Ronnie’s mum Jackie said: “Lady was such a huge part of Malcolm’s life and we are very proud of him raising money for The Dogs Trust.”
