School toilet vandals will be 'excluded, reported to police and asked to pay for damages'
Inverness Royal Academy's rector has outlined the "consequences for anyone identified as being responsible" for vandalism at the secondary school.
Rector Nigel Engstrand suspects social media may be partly to blame for actions of what he believes is a minority of pupils.
- Did TikTok craze lead to vandalism of Inverness school loos?
- Toilets closed at Inverness secondary due to 'repeated incidents of vandalism'
Toilets on three floors of Inverness Royal Academy have been vandalised and shut down because of what was called “repeated incidents of vandalism and antisocial behaviour”.
It has prompted rector Nigel Engstrand to write a letter to parents/carers, stating: "A significant amount of staff time has been wasted, most notably that of the cleaners and janitors who have consistently had to clean up and repair damage.
"Just in the last week we had nine toilet seats, six toilet roll holders and four soap dispensers broken. Ultimately it is your money, through taxes, that pays for repairs and staff time. Such behaviour also pulls staff away from our core purpose of providing the best education we can for your children.
"By no means do I think it is anything but a very small minority of young people who are responsible for this, but it will be clear to you that toilets being out of action has an impact on all pupils.
"I also want to be quite clear that the consequences for anyone identified as being responsible will include exclusion from school; being reported to the police and compensation for damages."
