Vandals have placed stickers on some of Highland Council's car parking meters in Inverness.

Earlier this summer new parking meters were installed at locations across the region as part of the local authority's so-called 'invitation to pay scheme'.

Three stickers branding the move as a 'scam' have been removed by council workers so far. A QR code on the sticker was a link to this article:

A council spokesperson said: "It is unfortunate that someone does not realise the benefits of this scheme.

"The Highland Council has expanded the successful invitation to pay scheme to help fund community investment with 50 per cent of net income raised being distributed via area committees.

"The remaining revenue will help maintain parking facilities and reduce any burden on the council’s roads maintenance budget which people want to see prioritised on resurfacing works.

"This scheme allows us to generate income without parking charges being mandatory and users can choose whether or not to pay to support the infrastructure."
