People can pedal along for some festive fun at this weekend's Kidical Mass event in Inverness.

Taking to his bike, Kidical Santa will ride his very own pedal-powered "sleigh" and there will also be a secret Santa gift swap of pre-loved toys that have been out-grown.

The monthly Kidical Mass event welcomes kids and adults of all ages and abilities and is described as "a fun, gentle ride with safety marshalls to keep everyone safe on the roads".

A spokeswoman said: "It is a good opportunity for kids, families and other less experienced cyclists to gain some confidence cycling in the city, with the safety in numbers that being in a group brings."

After a short ride through the city, there are fun activities at the end, including a smoothie bike, cycle ramp course, clown bikes and a penny farthing to try out.

The spokeswoman added: "We have been awarded funding to help improve confidence of individuals and families to cycle short journeys, and have been running a selection of cycle skills and maintenance workshops delivered by Velocity Cycle Workshop.

"There is clear evidence that cycling, walking and wheeling are better for our health and air quality, it is a fun way for kids to get around, and gives independence to young people.

"One of the main issues for people choosing healthier modes of travel is road safety – it simply isn’t safe enough for children and less confident adults to cycle around Inverness. This is something that we are actively campaigning to change."

Kidical Mass begins at 1.30pm on Saturday, December 3, meeting at Bellfield Park.
