A new Samaritans' campaign aims to help those struggling at this time of year.

As part of its Brew Monday campaign Inverness Samaritans will be encouraging people to reach out over a cuppa.

The Third Monday in January is typically known as Blue Monday for being the most difficult day of the year as the festive cheer starts to fade.

The Samaritans' Brew Monday campaign kicks off today.

In partnership with PG Tips volunteers will be at Inverness railway station until noon today chatting to commuters and handing out free tea bags so they can enjoy a brew with someone and share the warmth.

Samaritans will also support PG Tips on their new TV campaign, which will see the charity featured across national TV, Heart Radio and on Twitter and Facebook.

Located on Tomnahurich Street the Inverness branch of Samaritans currently has 46 volunteers helping to answer some of the millions of calls for help that Samaritans responds to every year from people going through a difficult time.

The branch also provides other support within the community through workplace training and talks to various groups and schools.

Ian Stevens, Network Rail’s suicide prevention program manager said: "Brew Monday is a great opportunity for the rail industry to show its support for Samaritans and the fantastic work they do in helping people up and down the country. Millions of people use the rail network every day and if through this campaign we can encourage them to talk about their problems over a cup of tea, we will have made a significant contribution to their lives and to the lives of those around them."

Paul Plummer, chief executive of the Rail Delivery Group, which represents the rail industry, said: "We’re proud to be working with Samaritans and their volunteers to give people a boost on one of the most difficult days of the year.

"Together, rail companies want to strengthen communities and bringing people together over a brew is a great way to provide others with support."

Anyone can contact Samaritans FREE any time from any phone on 116 123, even a mobile without credit. This number won’t show up on phone bills.

Alternatively you can email jo@samaritans.org or visit www.samaritans.org to find details of your nearest branch, where you can talk to a trained volunteers face to face.
