Chartered accountants firm Saffery Champness has added Shirley McIntosh MBE as a partner in its Inverness office.

She joins Saffery Champness from RSM, where she was a partner and formerly head of tax for Scotland and Northern Ireland. She brings with her more than three decades of experience advising high-net-worth clients, landed estates and rural businesses on their tax affairs.

Her expertise extends across a broad range of accounting, tax, and succession issues, including advising complex landed estates and family businesses on the capital gains and inheritance tax processes, as well as partnerships and trusts.

Alongside her professional life, she also pursued a successful career in sport, winning gold and silver medals in shooting at the 1994 Commonwealth Games. She was appointed MBE in the 1995 New Year’s Honours for services to the sport, and was later inducted into the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame.

“Saffery Champness has a strong connection with the Highlands and its unique estates and businesses, built across many years of outstanding client service," she said.

"I am very much looking forward to continuing this work as part of the team in Inverness.

“I hope to bring my own perspective on this important market, developed over decades of advising individuals and businesses in Scotland on their tax affairs. I am excited at the prospect of working alongside the extraordinary talent in the firm’s Inverness office, as well as in the wider team nationally and internationally.”

Matthew Burton, managing partner of Saffery Champness, said: “Welcoming an adviser of Shirley’s talent and reputation is a landmark moment for our team in Inverness, building on a legacy of providing best-in-class tax advice and services to our unique and diverse client base in the region. This includes some of the largest, most complex and prestigious landed estates and rural businesses in the country.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to draw on Shirley’s unique insight and experience of this important market, as well as her renowned technical expertise and knowledge, to continue delivering for our clients and helping them navigate what promises to be a challenging tax and inflationary environment over the coming years.”
