ScotRail says bags of waste will be removed from Inverness Rail Station.

A build-up of rubbish bags due to faulty waste equipment at Inverness rail station will be removed, according to operator ScotRail.

The problem involves a waste compactor which breaks down the rubbish collected from trains and the station.

It is currently awaiting repair.

One reader who contacted the Inverness Courier said the equipment had broken down in recent weeks and although some bags of rubbish had been removed, many still remained.

"It is going to be a public health hazard," he said.

A ScotRail spokesman said rubbish was being removed from the station regularly.

"We are sorry to customers for the inconvenience this issue has caused," he said.

"Cleanliness at our stations, and on our trains, is an absolute priority, and we are doing everything we can to rectify the fault.

"Regular uplifts have been arranged and all rubbish will be removed from the station regularly until the compactor is fully operational."
