Police were concerned about an unresponsive man who was heavily intoxicated and slumped on the ground in Inverness city centre.

An ambulance was called and when the medics arrived in the High Street at 1am on April 3, 2023, it was decided that 26 year old Reece MacIsaac, who had been placed in the recovery position, should go to hospital.

Fiscal depute Naomi Duffy-Welsh told Inverness Sheriff Court: "He was helped to his feet but he became aggressive and he kicked one of the officers on the leg. No injury was caused.

"He was put to the ground and arrested. He was then taken to Raigmore Hospital where he spent the night due to his level of intoxication."

Defence solicitor advocate Mike Chapman said: "At the time, he was heavily dependent on drugs and alcohol, was homeless and sleeping rough. It was a low point in his life."

The lawyer added that his client now had accommodation for the homeless in Fassifern Road, Fort William.

He went on: "He has been drug free for a year after serving a prison sentence and has not come to the attention of the police since."

Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald decided to call for a background report on MacIsaac. She told him: "It appears you are moving in the right direction and I don't want to ruin that. I will see what support you can get."

MacIsaac will return for sentencing on March 18.
