A man attacked his pregnant partner after being confronted about text messages from another woman on his phone, a court has heard.
Inverness Sheriff Court was told that Andrew Graham (23) kicked off after being roused from sleeping off a night out drinking.
The incident happened on January 23 this year at Graham's home at Stables Court, Munlochy.
Fiscal depute Emma MacEwan said his partner had found messages from a female on his phone following a night out.
After waking him to speak about them he attacked her.
Ms MacEwan said: "The accused has pinned the woman down on the bed and started to punch her on the face and then pined her to the wall."
The court heard he then grabbed and seized her by the throat for around "10 to 20 seconds".
The police were later called by the five-month pregnant woman and she was taken to hospital to be checked over.
She was found to have a black eye and bruising on her face.
Defence advocate Clare Russell said her client was still under the influence of alcohol when he carried out the assault but that he did not put that forward as an excuse only that he had little memory of what happened.
Sheriff Sara Matheson said: "You are a risk to any future partner.
"You'll never be closer to going to jail as you are now."
Graham was ordered to carry out 220 hours of unpaid work in the community and to take part in the Caledonian programme for domestic abuse offenders.
He was also made subject to a two year non-harassment order meaning he can make no contact with the woman he attacked.
