A HIGHLAND lifeboat crew preparing to return from a three-hour training session had a quick change of plan earlier today when the alarm was raised by the UK Coastguard.

And for the RNLI Kessock crew, it was the fourth shout within a two-day period when the pagers sounded at 3.41pm with a call to assist a yacht which had run aground east of the Kessock Bridge.

The crew swiftly changed direction to assess the situation. The decision was made to establish a tow and escort the yacht to the nearest safe and suitable port – in this instance, Clachnaharry Sea Lock.

Deputy launch authority, Dave Greer, said: “Following the successful and swift conclusion of this afternoon’s service our scheduled training session ended and the lifeboat and volunteer crew returned to station. Another good result and thanks to all for attending.”

The Atlantic 85 Robert and Isobel Mowat was washed and refuelled and is ready for service.

It had attended two grounding incidents on Saturday.
