COMMUTERS travelling between Inverness and North Kessock are being warned of road works starting this Sunday.

In order to carry out works to improve pedestrian and cycle crossing points on the A9 between the Kessock Bridge and North Kessock, BEAR Scotland said that overnight works will start on November 20.

With works expected to last nine weeks, active travel and road safety improvements will also include upgrades to the central reservation safety barriers and road lighting.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “These works are part an ongoing commitment to improve safety for all road users on the A9 and will see improvements to the existing, non-motorised user links in the area, as well as improving safety for main line, motorised users.

“This phase of the project will see improvements to the central reservation crossing points between the Kessock Bridge and the North Kessock Junction, which will also include upgrades to the existing safety barriers and street lighting. These upgrades will help to improve and promote active travel routes.“The traffic management is essential to keep roadworkers and road users safe during this project as our teams will be working in the central reservation area, however we will do all we can to complete the project as quickly and as safely as possible.

“We encourage road users to plan their journey in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”

Single fast lane closures will be in place on both the A9 northbound and southbound carriageways each night, with lane restrictions in place between 7pm and 6am.

The pedestrian and cycle crossing points will also be closed during the works with diversions in place via Point Road in North Kessock. The existing National Cycle Route 1 path adjacent to the A9 northbound will also be temporarily closed while the works take place.

A further phase of works is also proposed to widen the existing shared use path in the northbound verge that links the crossing points in early 2023.

More information and updates will be available from Traffic Scotland on www.trafficscotland.org.
