Road safety campaigner, MSP David Stewart, has received a letter from Transport Scotland informing him traffic speed surveys are due to be carried out on the A82 between Drumnadrochit and Lewiston.
It follows the Labour MSP’s calls for an investigation to determine whether the road meets the essential criteria for speed cameras.
Concerns were raised with him about cars and HGVs speeding through the area, paying no heed to the 30mph signs.
In a letter to Mr Stewart, a spokesman for Transport Scotland said: "As part of our ongoing investigations to improve road safety across the trunk road network, the A82 between Drumnadrochit and Lewiston is one of 41 sites where speed surveys are due to be commissioned via the Transport Scotland Framework.
“This list is being finalised at present with a view to these being sent to our surveying company in the next few weeks. It should be noted that due to ongoing and currently tightened Covid-19 restrictions, traffic levels may not be representative of normal conditions.
"We will continue to monitor these restrictions, traffic levels and plan surveys accordingly to ensure they provide the best evidence available.”
Mr Stewart said: “This intervention will be welcome news for residents. I also raised my road safety concerns directly with the area’s new Chief Superintendent Conrad Trickett last week.”
Drumnadrochit resident John Slater said: “Sadly the need for the speed cameras continues to be exampled. The road isn’t suitable for the speeds people are doing.”
