Three evening road closures are planned next week on the A831 in Drumnadrochit, close to its junction with the A82, to enable the continuing progress of an essential upgrade to the village’s drinking water network.

The road is scheduled to be closed to traffic between 7pm and 11pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (March 29, 30 and 31) evenings to allow connection of branch mains and service pipes that cross the junction.

A diversion will be signposted via the Culnakirk road, with arrangements in place to ensure that safe access can be provided for emergency vehicles if required.

Work on the project is currently ahead of schedule, with the installation of the full length of upgraded water main expected to be complete by the start of next week.

Following the completion of the road closures and reinstatement of the road surface, work on site will pause for two weeks to minimise disruption to the village during the Easter holiday period.

Work will then resume to transfer connections that serve homes and businesses along the length of the new water main.

Scottish Water’s project manager Brian James said: “We want to make road users aware of the need for three evening closures of the A831 at Drumnadrochit on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening.

"This work is necessary to allow the safe connection of existing sections of the village’s water network to the upgraded water main, which is nearing completion.

“We would ask road users to plan their journeys where possible to minimise the impact of the closures. Our team on site will do all they can to complete the necessary work safely and efficiently so the road can re-open as quickly as possible.

“We would like to thank customers in the village for their patience and support over recent months. Work is progressing ahead of schedule, which will allow us to begin transferring the connections which serve homes and businesses along the route of the new water main after the Easter holiday period.”

The upgrade to Drumnadrochit’s drinking water network is being carried out by Scottish Water to ensure it can continue to serve both new and existing customers well for many years to come, with capacity to support the community’s growth.
