TWO walkers were rescued by crew from the Invergordon RNLI lifeboat station after they were cut off by the tide while walking near Cromarty yesterday afternoon.

The “Douglas Aikman Smith” was launched at 3.20pm after reports that the walkers were stranded on a rocky cliff side in the area of the South Sutor on the Black Isle.

The walkers had been walking along the shoreline coastal path, part of the Gallow Hill, Cromarty Coastal route, when they got into difficulty.

The two stranded friends were quickly spotted and rescued by two RNLI crew using the Douglas Aikman Smith's small inshore lifeboat.

The pair were taken round the South Sutor headland to Cromarty Harbour where local Coastguard teams were on hand to receive them. Neither were injured during the scare.

Invergordon Lifeboat Coxswain, Bruce Rae stated: “In the light of this afternoon’s callout, and the pleasurable weather conditions, always remember about safety and ensure when out walking along shorelines, you take into consideration tides and accessibility as part of your route planning.”

The lifeboat was back at the Invergordon lifeboat station by 5pm.
