Return of Wheels of Nairn motoring extravaganza this weekend
Nairn is set to come alive to the roar of more than 200 engines when the classic vehicle show returns.
Dozens of vehicle enthusiasts are registered for Wheels of Nairn which will be staged at the town’s Links and promises to be a fun day out for all the family.
Wheels of Nairn, which will kick off at 10am on Saturday, is being organised by Nairn Business Improvement District, Nairn Connects, (BID) and is sponsored by a local car dealer, Nairn Car Sales.
The event features both vintage and modern cars on display, along with a number of motorbikes and other motorised vehicles.
The eye-catching event for all ages first took place in 2019 – before the Covid pandemic struck – and this year’s event is shaping up to be even bigger with the addition of more than 30 stallholders plus food vendors, a face painter, teacup rides and other family-friendly attractions.
Lucy Harding, Nairn BID manager, said: “We are very excited that Wheels of Nairn is going ahead once again, and we have been blown away by the interest in it.
“We have over 200 vehicles booked to exhibit at the Links over 14 categories and we are also delighted to be welcoming a number of car clubs.”
Headline sponsor Nairn Car Sales was launched earlier in the summer.
It is run by father and son team Hamish and Dean Clark and is a rebrand of the car sales operation at family-run business West End Garage in the town.
Dean said he and his team are very much looking forward to the event.
“Wheels of Nairn in 2019 was a great day out and we are delighted that we are able to be involved this year, as title sponsor,” he said.
“Being involved in an event of this kind is a natural fit for us.
“We are excited to be showcasing some of our own vehicles at Wheels of Nairn but also look forward to having a wander round the Links to see all the other vehicles which are being brought along for a great day out.”
Sponsorship and willing volunteers are a crucial part of all of the wide and varied Nairn BID events programme as Ms Harding explained.
“We’re so very grateful to the businesses who have got involved not only with this event, but with previous events such as Taste of Nairn which was held earlier this year,” she said.
“Events are a great way to show off our lovely wee town and are a perfect platform for publicity.
“This year, Wheels of Nairn has attracted 16 sponsors in total which is tremendous and shows that business owners believe we can put on a good show.”
She added: “We also couldn’t stage any of our events without the commitment from our brilliant volunteers.
“On Saturday, we will have teams on the Links from 7am right through to 5pm.
“It’s a big ask, but the people of Nairn always show such great community spirit.
“We must thank the Nairn Rotary Club who have helped round up a number of volunteers but are also running our registration tent for when the exhibitors begin to arrive.”
Gear up for a great family fun day out at Wheels of Nairn at the Links this Saturday between 10am and 3pm.
