Retired Fort Augustus priest faces 18 charges of assault and sexual assault

A former priest has been accused of historic physical and sexual assaults during an appearance at Inverness Sheriff Court.
Robert MacKenzie (87) of Cupar in Saskatchewan, was extradited from Canada to answer the charges.
He made no plea during a private appearance at Inverness Sheriff Court today and was remanded pending further inquiry.
He is expected to appear in court again within the next eight days.
MacKenzie was a teacher at Fort Augustus Abbey before he moved to Canada in 1988.
Canada’s Minister of Justice approved an extradition request from Scotland’s Crown Office.
