MOTORISTS on the A9 have been warned to expect roadworks on stretches of the road near Kingussie and Aviemore starting tomorrow.

A section of the road covering 125 metres will be resurfaced near Kingussie, and a lay-by will be relaid near Aviemore over four nights.

The work will begin on Monday at 7pm and run until 6am each evening until 6am on Friday, March 31.

"To ensure the safety of road workers and motorists, the works will be undertaken under 10mph convoy with lane closures and temporary traffic lights during working hours," said a spokesman for Bear Scotland.

"The road will be open outwith working hours to keep disruption to a minimum, with access for emergency services through the works site maintained at all times.

“These surfacing projects on the A9 will help address defects and reduce the need for ongoing maintenance. The projects will also improve the road surface, creating a smoother ride for road users.

"Traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of both roadworkers and motorists. Regrettably there will be some delays, but our teams will do all they can to complete the schemes as safely and quickly as possible, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete these projects.

"We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”

Real time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.traffic.gov.scot, and on Twitter @trafficscotland.
