CLOSING restaurants, pubs, bars, clubs and leisure centres in response to the coronavirus was "the right thing to do", a leading Inverness hotelier believes.

The Kingsmills Hotel made the statement after the UK government announced the ban this evening.

The ban, which aims to tackle the spread of the Covid-19 virus, does not affect take-out meals - and eateries that don't normally offer them can also provide them despite the ban.

The Kingsmills Hotel, responding to news that its restaurants will be impacted by the move, said: "Well it’s happened… the government has announced that bars, restaurants and leisure clubs will close tonight (Friday).

"This means that any reservations for our restaurants will no longer be available.

"We are bitterly disappointed that we are unable to welcome you for now but believe it is the right thing to do.

"For our leisure club members, your membership is frozen until we can welcome you again.

"Stay well all and looking forward to happier and healthier times."

The ban does not affect the operations of the hotel itself.
