Inverness residents have banded together to oppose what could be a major housing development of hundreds of homes on a former golf course.

It was discovered in February that owners Fairways Inverness Ltd had submitted plans to zone the land for around 800 homes last July.

Now residents of Slackbuie have established the Keep Slackbuie Green group to campaign for the protection of the land.

They are concerned about the loss of a valuable green space as well as the impact of a surge in population in the local area.

So far, more than 1400 letters have been sent to councillors, planners, as well as MPs and MSPs to voice their objection to the golf course becoming housing.

Earlier Highland Council reopened the Inner Moray Firth Local Development Plan (IMFLDP) for applications for land to be zoned for developments.

The application from Fairways and Kirkwood Homes came in July – the same month Fairways Inverness Ltd acquired the facility.
