A RESCUE helicopter from Inverness was scambled this morning to help in the search for a downed light aircraft.

At about 11.07am the UK Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre received a call with reports of a light aircraft crash near Ben More.

This report was followed shortly afterward by a report from Rescue Co-ordination Centre Germany of an aircraft emergency locator transmitter activated at Beinn Lora - 35 miles away from the initial incident reported.

The Coastguard helicopter from Inverness was sent to Ben More and another from Prestwick flew to Beinn Lora.

Arriving on scene, the Prestwick helicopter located the crashed aircraft on a mountain.

The helicopter based at Inverness arrived on scene 15 minutes later.

Both casualties have been airlifted separately and will be transferred to Glasgow airport for land ambulance transfer.

RAF Lossiemouth Mountain Rescue Team were making their way to the scene but have now been stood down.

There is no word yet on the condition of the aircraft's occupants.
