A man found with a knife in Inverness city centre deliberately set out to be arrested a court has been told.

David Dunn (45), of Inverness Prison, was found with the blade in Strothers Lane in Inverness city centre on October 18 last year.

His solicitor, David Paterson, told Inverness Sheriff Court it was part of a pattern of offending by Dunn.

He told the court that, finding himself homeless whenever he is released from prison, the previous offender deliberately sets out to get himself arrested again quickly.

“He is released and almost immediately re-offends and finds himself back in custody,” he said. “He places himself in a situation where he is almost certain to be searched.”

Sheriff Margaret Neilson deferred sentence until March 13 for reports and Dunn was remanded meantime.
