MORE cruise ship passengers than ever before have disembarked at the Port of Inverness this summer.

By the time the Variety Voyager had finished her fifth and final call to Inverness for 2019, more than 900 passengers altogether had passed through.

Two years ago, the port had no cruise ship visitors, but has now established itself as a destination for smaller cruise vessels with a number of visits already confirmed for the 2020 and 2021.

Port of Inverness chief executive Sinclair Browne said: “The cruise ship visits are a great boost for the city of Inverness, with a knock-on effect for the local economy and are a fantastic way for the port to directly engage with our stakeholders throughout the area.

"Passengers definitely appreciate arriving in the centre of the Highland capital and with Loch Ness right on our doorstep as well as other readily accessible attractions, it makes the Port of Inverness attractive to cruise companies.”

Mr Browne said the record-breaking season was a great reflection on all the hard work by the port's staff and also thanked Tomatin Distillery for its continuing support.

"This is the second year they have supported our cruise ship initiative and their presence has had a positive impact on passengers’ experiences,” he said.
