RAIL passengers on the Highland Main Line were facing major disruption this morning, after a fallen tree blocked the line in both directions at Blair Atholl.

Services travelling to or from Inverness and Edinburgh or Glasgow are terminating early at either Kingussie or Blair Atholl, or starting from perth instead of the Highland capital.

ScotRail is warning that disruption is expected to continue until 11am.

Network Rail Scotland said its engineers would be inspecting the track for damage before removing the tree.

The fallen tree comes after strong winds battered parts of the northern Highlands overnight, with a yellow weather warning in force in some places.
