Millburn Academy students are having a race night to help fundraise for an opportunity to join an expedition to Croatia.

S4 pupils Hannah Grey and Amy Beattie, will generate funds at Craigmonie Hotel this Saturday so they can take part in a research expedition with Operation Wallacea.

It follows a successful raffle in December, so now they want to kick it up a notch.

The night will involve placing £1 bets, eating delicious food kindly donated by Hastie and Dyce, Swansons and Harry Gow, plus an auction.

Lots for sale include a hand-drawn technical drawing of a Mercedes F1 car, which has been signed by driver Lewis Hamilton and his team which comes with a certificate of authenticity, a rugby ball which has been signed by the current Scotland squad and a very special bottle of Glenmorangie whisky that has been signed by the Men of Tain.

Hannah and Amy have shared their appreciation for anyone who is able to donate and help their cause.

“We do appreciate that the world is hurting right now but we do hope to put on an affordable, fun night for everybody while raising funds to help our team make a real difference to the ecology and understanding of our planet thus benefiting everybody’s future,” they said.

Amy’s mother, Claire Moffat, described it as a once-in-a-lifetime chance for the girls. “It’s not just a holiday, it’s a real opportunity for them to learn and get hands-on experience working with publishing scientists,” she said.

Tickets for the night are £5 each and they can be purchased online through their Hannah and Amy Operation Wallacea Facebook page or at the doors on the night.
