PRIMARY school pupils have shot to the top of the anti-racism league after meeting their sporting heroes.

Youngsters from Crown Primary had a special lesson on social inclusion when Caley Thistle players delivered a presentation about the Show Racism the Red Card initiative.

The P6 and P7 pupils were visited at their school by three members of the Championship side and had the idea to create posters for football fans promoting diversity.

Crown Primary teacher Cat Morton said: “As we are a rights respecting school, diversity is part of our school values and ethos so it wasn’t too difficult for the pupils to design these posters.”

The pupils then submitted their work and players from ICT chose the top six which are set to be enlarged by Acorn Signs and displayed around Caledonian Stadium.

ICT commercial manager Jim Oliver said: “It’s fantastic that the kids have embraced it.

“The message to get across is that it’s not all about race, it’s about treating everyone with respect.”

Show Racism the Red Card is the UK’s anti-racism educational charity and was established in January 1996. It utilises the high-profile status of footballers to help tackle racism in society.

Caley Thistle gave each of the pupils ticktets for the Infinity Trampoline Park in Inverness as a thank you for their efforts.
