Inverness beer drinkers might enjoy their pint even more after a survey of 30 UK cities found the Highland capital the cheapest spot to quench your thirst.

The Pub Beer Price Index study compiled by holiday rental company Holidu found that Inverness drinkers could pay as little as £3.20 for a pint of lager, almost half the price of the UK capital equivalent where a pint of the cheapest lager could set you back £6.

Inverness prices were also well below Edinburgh prices – the most expensive location in Scotland and second most expensive in the UK – where the cheapest pint is £4.80, while in Aberdeen the cheapest drink costs £1.30 more than you could expect to pay in Inverness.

There was a similar disparity with popular lager brands, with Invernessians paying £3.60 for a pint while Londoners have to fork out £6.10 and Edinburgh slightly cheaper at £6.

The study found that drinkers in Inverness spend an average £3.10 for a pint, £1.40 cheaper than you might expect to pay in London. Picture: Gary Anthony..

Dark beer fans are also saving money by enjoying beer in Inverness, with a local pint costing £4.10 against £5.70 in London and £5.20 in Edinburgh, though the city of Birmingham tops the price list, with drinkers paying even more than their London compatriots at £5.80 per pint.

Getting in a round of six drinks in Inverness will cost an average of £21.70, the Pub Beer Price Index found, with Londoners paying £35.70 and Aberdonians £28.90.

Inverness was also the only UK location to make it into the study's top 20 locations for cheapest beer out of 50 international destinations and 30 UK cities popular with tourists – though Inverness still has some way to go to catch up with Czech capital Prague where the average price of a pint is £1.50 and a six pint round costs just £9.

The study also looked at prices in Wetherspoons pubs in each city and although the price of the cheapest pint was the same in both Inverness and London at just £2, an average round of six pints in Inverness would cost just £18.70 in Inverness as opposed to £27.10 in London.
