Probe into A9 slip road defects and weaknesses to bring disruptions for motorists in Inverness

Motorists are being warned there will be slip road closures with diversions at the A9 Raigmore Interchange for four nights from Monday.

The disruption is to enable BEAR Scotland to carry out essential carriageway coring investigations on the A9 at the Raigmore Interchange Slips are set to begin on Monday 13 November for four nights.

BEAR, Transport Scotland’s road maintenance and management firm in the north-west, will core the surface to determine the underlying condition of the road on all four slip roads at the A9 Raigmore Interchange.

All investigation work is scheduled to finish by 6am on Friday, November 17

Slip road diversions will be in place to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists.

A detailed schedule of closures and diversion has been provided:

• From Monday,10pm to 6am on Tuesday, phase 1 will involve coring of the northbound off slip. Traffic will be redirected from the Raigmore Interchange northbound off slip to Longman Roundabout and then guided back down the A9 to exit at the southbound Raigmore Interchange off slip.

• From Tuesday, over the same hours, phase 2 will involve coring of the northbound on slip. Traffic will be re-routed from the Raigmore Interchange northbound on slip around the roundabout and back down Millburn Road to Millburn Road Roundabout. Subsequently, traffic will be directed down the B9006 Old Perth Road to Inshes Roundabout and then onto the northbound A9.

• From Wednesday, over the same hours, phase 3 will involve coring of the southbound off slip. Traffic will be redirected from the Raigmore Interchange southbound off slip to the Inshes Junction, where traffic will exit the southbound A9 onto the B9006 Culloden Road. From there, traffic will be diverted west on the B9006 Culloden Road to Inshes Roundabout and onto the B9006 Old Perth Road, leading to Millburn Road Roundabout.

• And from Thursday, over the same hours, the final phase will involve coring on the southbound on slip. Traffic will be directed from the Raigmore Interchange southbound on slip onto Millburn Road. At Millburn Road Roundabout, traffic will be redirected onto the B9006 Old Perth Road to Inshes Roundabout, and from there, along B9006 Culloden Road. At the B9006/A9 Culloden Road junction, traffic will be diverted onto the A9 for southbound travel on the A9 (end of diversion).

Traffic Scotland says traffic management will be removed outside working hours.

Access through the works’ site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s north west representative, said, “These pavement investigations on the A9 will allow us to find solutions to address defects, significantly improving the road surface for motorists once resurfacing is completed.

“Our teams are committed to completing the work efficiently and safely.
