A STITCH in time saves nine – and a new repair workshop in a major Inverness clothes shop is hoping to encourage Highlanders to take that adage to heart.

Primark has announced plans for a repair workshop session in its Highland capital store next Tuesday (August 8). The initiative, which has already seen more than 100 similar sessions held all over Europe, is hoping to highlight basic rapir techniques, including a few sewing hacks, to help "empower people" to repair and re-wear their clothes.

With no experience needed, attendees will also be given a reusable tote bag and a sewing kit to use at home.

The Inverness workshop will be hosted by fashion designer and lecturer Lorraine Mitchell and will cover basic sewing and mending skills like adding zips and buttons as well as upcycling pre-loved clothing.

The workshop is free to attend and bookings are live on the Primark Eventbrite page for customers to secure a space.

For those who can’t make it, Primark has also created a series of easy-to-follow videos, covering everything from how to thread a needle and basic stitching to sewing on buttons and zips, available on its Primark Repair Hub.

Lynne Walker, director of Primark Cares, said: “We’re delighted to be rolling out our repair workshops across our store network in the UK. Our goal is to strengthen the durability of our clothes and keep clothes in use for longer as part of our commitment to become a more circular business. Educating customers on repair is one small step forward in our journey.”

The "sew and create" session will take place at the Primark store in Inverness on Tuesday, August 8 from 1.30pm to 3pm.

Booking for this event can be made here.

An "upcycle and relove" workshop will also take place in the store on the same day from 4pm to 5.30pm.

"No experience is required, you will learn about different hand sewing techniques and ways of upcycling, meaning you will be able to alter, mend and update clothing you already have and love," said a spokesman.

"All you need to do is bring one pre-loved item of clothing like a pair of denim jeans, a hoodie or a jumper and we'll provide everything else you need to take part in the specially prepared workshop area within our Inverness store.
