A MAN who sexually assaulted a postwoman has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register and warned about his future conduct.

Richard Allan (37), of Mackintosh Road in Inverness, was convicted after a trial of assaulting the postwoman by touching her shoulder and arm in the stairwell of flats where he lived as she made a delivery.

Solicitor Neil Wilson said what Allan was convicted of was at the “lower end of the scale” and the reports for the court indicated no underlying issues. He said Allan had no offences of a similar nature, had had a change in attitude to alcohol and was accepting help.

Sheriff Robert Frazer said: “While this may be regarded in the lower end of the scale, it is nonetheless a sexual assault. This is completely unacceptable and must never happen again.”

He placed Allan under supervision and on the register for 12 months.
