A statement from Post Office has expressed its disappointment following the immediate closure of a store in Strathglass.

Owners of Cannich Stores, who have provided Post Office services in the village of Cannich since 2014, confirmed on Wednesday that they had "no choice" but to shut down the service, citing "ongoing issues" with the retailer as the cause.

Brad Collins, postmaster for the Cannich outlet, owns Cannich Stores with his wife Nicole.

He says that the couple had "agonized" over the decision and had "hoped that it wouldn't have to come to this".

It is understood that the store had been dealing with issues related to Post Office's IT system, Horizon, for some time.

The nationwide retailer has expressed its "disappointed" at the decision, saying that they are still hopeful of a resolution.

A Post Office spokesperson said: “Post Office had been working proactively with the Postmaster to try to resolve some matters. We are disappointed that the Postmaster has decided to close the branch with immediate effect.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused to customers. Alternative branches include Drumnadrochit, Beauly and Kiltarlity.”
