A popular Inverness café and delicatessen has closed its doors suddenly in mysterious circumstances.

Chit Chat on the city’s Culcabock Road alerted customers on social media last night that it would not be opening from this morning, until further notice, for “legal reasons”.

Claire Shewan, of the family-run business, wrote on Facebook: “It is with a very heavy heart that Chit chat deli will be closed with immediate effect until further notice.

“This is due to legal reasons that are outwith my control.

“If you have an existing booking please know that this will still be honoured.”

The business owners were approached for comment.

Disappointed customers expressed hope the business would reopen before too long.

Leanne McPherson said: “Oh no. Glad we made it yesterday, but will definitely be back as food was fab and staff were lovely.”

Christina Stewart said: “So sad – was a lovely wee café, hopefully (it will) reopen soon.”

Tara MacDonald said: “Gutted for you, hope you guys get this sorted.”
