Music fans are encouraged to go along to a charity quiz night which will be held in Inverness.

It has been organised by Lisa Gray, from Culloden, who is taking part in this year’s Ness Factor singing competition in aid of Highland Hospice.

The 43-year-old is currently being coached by singing coach Tony Henry and her fundraising music quiz and disco will be at the Raigmore Motel on Friday, September 30, from 7pm.

She said she thought it would be a fun evening, adding: “I’m quite up on my music knowledge and my whole family is into their music.”

Mrs Gray said it would be good for people to get involved and raise money for charity at the same time.

The DJ on the night will be James Fraser, who has also previously taken part in Ness Factor, and Mrs Gray said: “People can have fun and let their hair down.”

She said there had already been some interest from people and added: “I’ve had plenty of people saying to me they are going to come along.”

Mrs Gray estimated that the room at the hotel could hold in excess of 100 people. “It’s quite a big place and I am sure you can get quite a few teams in there.”

On the night there will be a prize for the winning team as well as a raffle – with vouchers for local restaurants and a signed Caley Thistle shirt up for grabs. She said: “Everybody has been so good giving vouchers.”

As well as the music quiz and disco, she is also organising a race night on Friday, October 28.

She works as a communications and resilience assistant and is married to 47-year-old Sandy Gray.

The couple have a 25-year-old daughter, Rachel Strachan, and one grandchild, three-year-old Fraser Strachan – with another due in October.

She said she had followed the event for the past few years and always liked to take the plunge and give it a go. She added: “Especially being able to raise funds for such a worthy cause.

“For someone that struggles with nerves and confidence, being able to be part of this amazing event is just going to be such an exciting summer and autumn.”

There are nine finalists who have been chosen to sing their way to stardom at this year’s charity show on November 12 at the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness.

This year, the winner will take home a grand prize of a performance slot at Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival 2023.

As well as Mrs Gray the other contestants are: Stephen Laurie, Jennifer Urquhart, Fiona Clark, Donna Fraser, Andrew Gill, Caitlin Farquhar, Moira Black and Gregor Matheson.

They will be coached in teams of three by Tony Henry, Katy-Louise Mackay and Fiona Forbes.

It is the fifth year of the competition and also the 35th year of the hospice, making this show extra special.

There will be a commemorative address along with guest performances and an auction.
